The Eye of Horus is an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, ruling power and good health.
In one of the myths in which Set and Horus struggle for power after the death of Osiris, Set scratched out Horus' left eye. Most of the eye was restored by Hathor or Thoth, but the last part was perhaps created by a miracle. When the eye of Horus was whole again, Horus offered it to his father Osiris in the hope that he would bring him back to life. The Eye of Horus therefore often symbolized sacrifice, healing, restoration and protection.
